CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Captain Fred Swastek of USMA Chicago is offering 3 CPR/AED/First Aid Certification courses this spring.
Each of these one-night certification classes will be held from 7pm to 10pm at Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.  Each course is limited to (15) participants each, and registration is required (see below).
Fred is certified by the National Safety Council as a First Aid and CPR/AED instructor. CCYC has installed AEDs in the club and on the Corinthian and now is your chance to become certified. These certification courses are open to all and we encourage you to consider empowering yourself to potentially save a life! For our MAC racers, please consider designating at least one of your crew to attend and get certified.  
The cost is $60 per person.  Payment is due on the day of the class directly to Fred and can be made via cash, Zelle, Venmo, or check made payable to USMA Chicago   The certification is good for 2 years. Chicago T-10 & CCYC Offshore Fleet Winter Seminar Series #1 -
AIS Transponding: Get Wired PLUS Chicago Weather with the NWS

Saturday, January 13, 2024,  9 a.m. to Noon

The CYCRTM will not be requiring boats to Transmit (TX) AIS signals for 2024, however all boats must still be able to Receive (RX) and display AIS signals as in years past.  But it’s probably coming!  T-10 Fleet Captain Blane Boynton has installed it and will talk about how it’s done.  Joining Blane is a representative from Chicago Yacht Club.  Bring your questions.  AIS can be for anyone in our crowded waters.

Also- NWS has a wealth of information for sailors.  One of its local forecasters, Zachary Yack, will speak on weather for sailors on our end of Lake Michigan.

Racing season is just over the horizon. Tuning up to do well on the race course means having the knowledge to choose and shape your sails optimally. We are presenting racer and sailmaker, Andy Camarda, of Evolution Sails, to talk about water- and airfoil efficiency and to discuss with attendees what issues for which they have questions. Part of this will involve rig tune and racing tactics as they intersect with changing sail set on the race course. New materials in line and sail cloth mean that what you thought you knew may be out of date. Let’s get together and go over those curved surfaces above, and below, the waterline.

Captain's Class  - January 6th - Feb 22, 2020

Corinthian University is proud to be hosting a USMA Chicago Captain’s class starting January 6, 2020 at CCYC.
There are 5 seats available in the class reserved especially for CCYC members.
The class will meet Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 10:30pm and Saturdays from 8a to 4p for 5 weeks ending February 22, 2020.
This is an 80 hour, Coast Guard approved Master class for up to a 100 ton license.

The class will be taught by long time Club member Captain Fred Swastek. Fred is the founder or USMA Chicago and has been teaching the class for 11 years. USMA Chicago has a reputation for providing the best, most successful, Master class in the area. The major tour boat companies regularly place prospective Captains in this class because of the high success rate and quality of the education. USMA Chicago uses proven methods to make sure that the students not only pass the tests but retain the knowledge well into their boating careers.

Inflatable PFD Clinic

Sunday March 8, 2020 /  1pm - 4 pm
Come join Phil Pollard and Nick Fugate of Crowley's Yacht Yard as they host a PFD Clinic at CCYC.  We invite all Chicago area boaters to please bring their life jacket(s) to learn valuable hands-on skills on how to properly care for your PFD. 
Phil and Nick will cover how to repack your pfd, change a cartridge, maintain them, when that maintenance should be done, get product recall
updates and information about when a life jacket needs to be replaced. 
Crowley’s will have a small stock of retail items available to provide you with the opportunity to purchase new vests, re-arm kits, and accessories.
There is no cost to attend the event. The only cost to you would be a re-arm kit should you decide you want to inflate your pfd before repacking it.  
The clinic size is limited to 50 persons and will be offered via registration only.

US Sailing Sanctioned International Offshore Safety at Sea Hands On Training ONLY

Saturday March 28, 2020  / 8am - 6pm - CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19

CCYC will be hosting two (2) SAS Hands-On Certifications for a max of (30) attendees on either Saturday March 28th OR Sunday March 29th.  Course runs from 8am to 6p. 

The morning in water pool session will be from 8am to 11:30am at the Northwestern University Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, 2311 Campus Drive, Evanston, IL.   
The afternoon session will be from 12pm – 6pm at the CCYC Clubhouse, 601 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL  

Prior to attending this Hands-On course, participants must complete either a
US Sailing Sanctioned In-Person Offshore Safety at Sea Course OR
US Sailing Online Offshore Safety at Sea Course
All participants must have a valid Offshore Safety at Sea certificate completed within the previous 365 days.  

Upon completion of this Hands-on training, provided the prerequisite was completed, participants will be sent via email from US Sailing, a digital US Sailing International Offshore Safety at Sea with Hands On Certification from US Sailing and World Sailing Certificate.  This Certification is good for 5 Years.  

Our Moderator is Bill Biewenga.  Bill has accumulated over 400,000 sea miles including 41 transatlantic crossings, several TransPacs, numerous sailing speed records, deliveries and races as well as onboard participation in four round the world races.  

Course Fee is $250 and includes lunch, afternoon snack, US Sailing Safety at Sea Guide, and all course materials. Parking is Free at both event locations.    
Discounts are available for US Sailing Members and/or CCYC Members.   
A Discount Code is available to you for registering for the US Sailing Online Offshore SAS course for an additional $80.
Each session is a stand alone session and a participant need register for only one day to complete the certification.

CCYC will be hosting two (2) SAS Hands-On Certifications for a max of (30) attendees on either Saturday March 28th OR Sunday March 29th.  Course runs from 8am to 6p. 

The morning in water pool session will be from 8am to 11:30am at the Northwestern University Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, 2311 Campus Drive, Evanston, IL.   
The afternoon session will be from 12pm – 6pm at the CCYC Clubhouse, 601 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL  

Prior to attending this Hands-On Course, participants must complete either a
US Sailing Sanctioned In-Person Offshore Safety at Sea Course OR
US Sailing Online Offshore Safety at Sea Course
All participants must have a valid Offshore Safety at Sea certificate completed within the previous 365 days.  

Upon completion of this Hands-on training, provided the prerequisite was completed, participants will be sent via email from US Sailing, a digital US Sailing International Offshore Safety at Sea with Hands On Certification from US Sailing and World Sailing Certificate.  This Certification is good for 5 Years.  

Our Moderator is Bill Biewenga.  Bill has accumulated over 400,000 sea miles including 41 transatlantic crossings, several TransPacs, numerous sailing speed records, deliveries and races as well as onboard participation in four round the world races.  

Course Fee is $250 and includes lunch, afternoon snack, US Sailing Safety at Sea Guide, and all course materials. Parking is Free at both event locations.    
Discounts are available for US Sailing Members and/or CCYC Members.   
A Discount Code is available to you for registering for the US Sailing Online Offshore SAS course for an additional $80.
Each session is a stand alone session and a participant need register for only one day to complete the certification.

Captain Fred Swastek of USMA Chicago is offering a CPR/AED/First Aid certification course this spring! This course is open to all and we encourage you to consider empowering yourself to potentially save a life! Inflatable PFD Clinic - FULL

Sunday April 28, 2019 2pm - 5 pm
Come join Phil Pollard and Nick Fugate of Crowley's Yacht Yard as they host a PFD Clinic.
We invite all Chicago area boaters to please bring their life jacket(s) to learn valuable hands-on skills on how to properly care for your PFD. 
Phil and Nick will cover how to repack your pfd, change a cartridge, maintain them, when that maintenance should be done, get product
recall updates and get information about when a life jacket needs to be replaced. 
Industry experts from Crowley’s, Mustang, Spinlock and Crewsaver will also be present during this seminar to answer your questions.

Come join Phil Pollard, Nick Fugate, and Greg Gills  of Crowley's Yacht Yard as they host a FREE Inflatable PFD Clinic. This program is for any kind of boater wanting to know more about inflatable PFD's! Phil will discuss the fundamental differences between the types of arming systems, ISO and USCG approval ratings, when proper maintenance should be performed, how best to store PFD’s when not in use, when a life jacket should be replaced, and more!   We invite all attendees to please bring along their life jacket(s) to learn valuable hands-on skills on how to properly inspect, re-arm, and re-pack their life jacket(s).
